Welcome to SMLLM 2026
The 1st International Workshop on Scientific Machine Learning and Large Models in Civil Engineering (SMLLM 2026) is organised by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, National Rail Transit Electrification and Automation Engineering Technology Research Centre (Hong Kong Branch), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, China. SMLLM 2026 will be held in Hong Kong, from July 1 to 3, 2026, with July 1 designated for on-site registration and July 2-3 dedicated to official conference sessions.
About SMLLM
SMLLM 2026 stands as the premier platform dedicated to exploring the frontiers and applications of scientific machine learning, large models and civil engineering. Our goal is to assemble thought leaders, academics and industry professionals to discuss innovative applications of machine learning and large models in the field of civil engineering. Over the course of two days, the workshop will feature a comprehensive program, including keynote lectures, interactive panel discussions, and technical sessions. These events are designed not only to share cutting-edge research and practical applications but also to encourage meaningful dialogue and collaboration among participants.
Call for Papers
We invite researchers, academics, and professionals to submit original research papers, case studies, and contributions on topics related to the integration of scientific machine learning and large models in civil engineering, addressing key challenges in design, simulation, construction, operation, monitoring and vibration control. Submissions should align with the workshop theme and may cover theoretical, experimental, and practical aspects of the field.
Workshop Themes
Machine learning methods and large models will enhance infrastructure safety, reduce costs, and improve construction efficiency by combining traditional engineering principles with data-driven insights. The theme of the workshop is centred around the integration of scientific machine learning and large models in civil engineering, addressing challenges in design, simulation, construction, operation, monitoring and vibration control. Themes will include but not limited to:
- S01: Intelligent Design and Optimization of Structures.
- S02: Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) in Computational Mechanics.
- S03: AI-Driven Construction Automation and Robotics.
- S04: Machine Learning for Structural Health Monitoring.
- S05: Few-Shot, Transfer, and Meta-Learning in Civil Engineering.
- S06: Digital Twin and Response Modelling for Smart and Resilient Infrastructure.
- S07: Bayesian Methods for Uncertainty Quantification and Risk Analysis.
- S08: Large Models and Foundation Models in Civil Engineering.
- S09: Reinforcement Learning for Vibration Control.
- S10: Computer Vision-Based Structural Health Monitoring and Damage Detection.
