Welcome to the 28th ATRS World Conference, hosted by Hong Kong Polytechnic University. As some of you may know, this is the second time we are conducting our World Conference in Hong Kong. The first time was in 1999 when the conference chair was current ATRS President, Prof. Anming Zhang, then a faculty member at City University of Hong Kong. The 1999 conference was quite memorable. Hong Kong had just retired Kai Tak Airport and opened its new airport at Chek Lap Kok, so conference participants had the chance to experience this fabulous new facility. We have waited too long - 26 years - to return to Hong Kong. I would like to thank the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. H.C. Man, the Head of the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering, Prof. Chih-yung Wen, the Chair of the Local Organizing Committee, Dr. Wei Liu, and all the other members of the organizing team for inviting us to Hong Kong. The theme of this conference is Towards a greener, sustainable and resilient aviation. I am hopeful that, collectively, we can make progress towards this goal. | |
