Theme of the Year : Fables for the AI Era
The Tortoise and the Hare has had a huge impact on my life: I strive to be a non-complacent hare. It was not until I re-read this much-loved Aesop’s fable recently that I learned of its deeper meaning.
In a version of story, it is the tortoise who proposes the race. Though slow, he understands that victory is not simply about speed. The race is more about perseverance, self-confidence and knowledge of one’s forte and values. What matters is not being born fast or slow — it is moving forward with purpose.
This year’s competition takes “fables” as its theme to encourage everyone to revisit classic stories, reflect on everyday life, and reimagine or create new fables for the AI generation. As AI brings unprecedented opportunities and challenges to human civilisation, we are prompted to reflect on the relationship between human and technology, and what kind of “race” we are now part of.
We look forward to reading your creative stories!
