Special Issue on “Advancements in Sustainable and Resilient Maritime and Air Transport”
Maritime and air transport are undergoing substantial changes as sustainability and resilience become increasingly important to their development. Efforts to reduce emissions are stimulating advances in alternative fuels, electrification, infrastructure, and operational practices. Digitalization, artificial intelligence, automation, and data analytics are also creating opportunities to improve transport efficiency, safety, and responsiveness. These developments require coordinated progress in scientific research, technological applications, investment, and governance. Meanwhile, climate hazards, geopolitical tensions, cyber threats, infrastructure constraints, and demand volatility continue to challenge the reliability of maritime and air transport and their associated supply chains. The transition towards more sustainable transport systems consequently involves questions about how environmental improvements can be achieved while maintaining economic viability and the capacity to withstand and recover from disruptions. Emerging issues include evaluating the economic and environmental performance of alternative energy systems; integrating digital technologies into transport planning and operations; designing green logistics networks and strengthening multimodal integration; assessing disruption risks and developing recovery strategies; managing trade-offs among emissions, cost, capacity, service reliability, and redundancy; and coordinating policy instruments, sustainable finance, and stakeholder decisions. Although sustainability and resilience have often been studied separately, their interactions deserve greater attention, alongside continued advances in each field. Bringing together high-quality research and innovative management approaches can help address these interconnected issues across shipping, ports, airports, air cargo, and multimodal logistics. Accordingly, this Special Issue aims to provide a platform for original research that advances the theoretical, methodological, technological, operational, and policy foundations of sustainable and resilient maritime and air transport. It welcomes contributions examining sustainability and resilience jointly or either dimension independently, with an emphasis on insights that inform logistics and transportation management.

Special Issue on “Global Maritime Disruption and Recovery Governance”
The global maritime sector faces unprecedented disruptions, ranging from geopolitical conflicts and extreme climate events to public health crises and shipping chokepoint bottlenecks. These systemic shocks severely impact port logistics, shipping networks, and maritime governance. To navigate such turbulence, this special issue, "Global Maritime Disruption and Recovery Governance," aims to explore innovative policy tools, institutional adaptations, governance solutions, and management strategies that facilitate swift recovery and long-term sustainability in the maritime domain. We welcome multidisciplinary methods, including, but not limited to spatiotemporal analysis, OR & optimization, econometric modeling, and policy evaluation, to address vulnerability mitigation, operational recovery, and reliable governance.

Special Issue on “Navigating the Blue Economy: Innovations and Sustainability in Maritime Transportation”
The concept of the blue economy, the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and the health of ocean ecosystems, has gained significant momentum in recent years. At the heart of this transformation lies maritime transportation, which is a driver of economic opportunity and a contributor to environmental impact. As global maritime trade expands, there is a critical need to reimagine the sector to align with the principles of sustainability, resilience, health, and equity.
This Research Topic invites multidisciplinary contributions that explore the nexus among maritime transportation, the blue economy, and climate change. We welcome studies that examine how ports, shipping lines, and policy-makers are adapting to environmental regulations, integrating decarbonization technologies, promoting sustainable transport to improve public health, and embracing innovation such as hydrogen shipping, AI for maritime logistics, green port initiatives, and digital twins.
