[Presentation Title] Fiber Iris: A journey from Academic Research to Dominance in Global Fiber-to-the-home Market

Dr Dong obtained his PhD in 2016 from the Department of Electrical Engineering at PolyU under the supervision of Professor Alan Pak Tao Lau. He then joined Huawei and serves as Chief Architect for Optical Distribution Networks. His key contribution is the invention of "Fiber Iris" (DQ ODN), a pioneering technology that digitizes and brings manageability to passive optical fiber networks. This solution was honored as the "Intelligent Fiber Deployment Solution of the Year" at the 2021 Broadband World Forum. By 2023, Huawei's DQ ODN accounted for nearly one-fifth of the global ODN market, valued at USD 2.5 billion.
