Dr. Fermin Cuevas Director, CNRS Representative Office in China and Mongolie

Fermin Cuevas, who holds a PhD in physics from the Autonomous University of Madrid (Spain, 1996), has been a CNRS researcher since 1999. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Metallurgy (Germany, 1996-1998), he conducted his research between 1999 and 2024 at the Institute of Chemistry and Materials in Paris-Est. 

His main research activities focused on intermetallic compounds, composite materials and complex hydrides for solid hydrogen storage, as well as their functional properties as electrode materials and solid electrolytes for nickel-metal hydride and lithium-ion batteries.

He became a CNRS research director in 2018. Since then, he has taken on numerous collective responsibilities, becoming head of the ‘Hydrogen-Matter Interaction’ group at ICMPE, co-head of the “Storage” division of the CNRS Hydrogen Research Federation and co-director of the Franco-Australian international research network ‘IRN-FACES’ on energy conversion and storage. He is currently a member of the steering committee of the ‘International Symposium on Metal-Hydrogen Systems’.

Since November 2024, he is Director of the CNRS Representative Office in China and Mongolie.
