Prof. Nancy Wong Chair and Professor of the Department of Consumer Science, School of Human Ecology, University of Wisconsin-Madison |
Professor Nancy Wong holds the Kohl’s Chair in Retail Innovation and is Professor of Consumer Science in the School of Human Ecology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, with an affiliated role in the School of Business’s Marketing Department. Her research examines how culture shapes consumption decisions, affective responses, and values such as materialism, with applications to consumer choices in healthcare, personal finance, and sustainable consumption that influence individual and societal well being. As a consumer psychologist, Professor Wong investigates methodological issues in cross cultural research and translates insights about cognitive biases and decision processes into strategies that support wiser consumer choices and sustainability goals. Her scholarship spans public policy–relevant topics, including consumer financial vulnerability, savings behavior, and the intersection of marketing practices with health and environmental outcomes. Professor Wong received a Ph.D. in Business Administration and an M.A. in Social Psychology from the University of Michigan, complementing prior training with an MBA in Marketing from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), a background that integrates behavioral science and market strategy. In addition to her research leadership, she contributes to campus and professional communities through teaching, mentorship, and public facing scholarship on how consumers approach consequential life decisions.
