Prof. Yang Hao Former Deputy Vice Principal for Strategic Research, Queen Mary University of London

Professor Yang Hao is the QinetiQ/Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair and Former Deputy Vice Principal for Strategic Research at Queen Mary University of London. He has served on the management board of the Cambridge Graphene Centre since 2013 and is Editor-in-Chief of EPJ Applied Metamaterials, having previously led IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters.

Prof. Hao is internationally recognised for pioneering research in transformation optics, metamaterials, and body-centric wireless communications. His books, Antennas and Radio Propagation for Body-Centric Wireless Communications and FDTD Modeling of Metamaterials: Theory and Applications, alongside highly cited papers in Nature Communications, Advanced Science, Physical Review Letters, Applied Physics Letters, and IEEE Transactions, have shaped the field. His discoveries in metamaterials and metalens antennas underpin spinout success, including the satellite communications company All.Space.

His contributions have been recognised with major honours including the IEEE John Kraus Antenna Award, the EurAAP Antenna Award, the IET A.F. Harvey Research Prize, the BAE Chairman’s Silver Award, and the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, IEEE, and IET.
