The Department of English and Communication at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, in cooperation with the Education Bureau (EDB) and the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR), are proud to present the International Summit on the Use of AI in Language Learning and Teaching 2026 (AIinLT 2026), to be held on 21-24 June 2026 at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The conference theme is “AI in Language Education: From Ideas to Implementation to Impact”.
AIinLT 2026 seeks to provide a practical forum, complete with keynotes, discussion panels, and workshops, for teachers, researchers, and others in the education sector to gather, learn, and share insights regarding the use of AI in the field of language learning and teaching. AIinLT 2026 will feature presentations and teaching demonstrations in Chinese and English and is free for presenters and attendees from anywhere around the world. AIinLT 2026 particularly welcomes teachers in government, aided (including special schools), caput and direct subsidy scheme (DSS) schools in Hong Kong.
The objectives of AIinLT 2026 are:
- to provide a platform for educators worldwide to share new insights, practical experiences, and emerging knowledge related to the use of AI in language learning and teaching;
- to offer opportunities for local school teachers and educators to stay informed about the advancements in educational technologies and become familiar with widely used AI-powered learning and teaching tools;
- to empower teachers and educators to make the most effective use of AI-powered technologies in supporting the learning needs of their students and those requiring additional support; and
- to foster collaborative research and evidence-based discussions on the efficacy, challenges, and future directions of AI in language education.
AIinLT 2026 will be split into two halves. During the first two days of AIinLT 2026 on 21-22 June, educational practitioners from primary, secondary, and tertiary educational contexts are invited to attend and give presentations and teaching demonstrations of global best practices on how AI and AI-assisted tools can be used in language learning classrooms to help students and teachers. Attendees and presenters focused on English language learning and teaching and Chinese language learning and teaching (including Cantonese and Putonghua) are welcome. The last two days of AIinLT 2026 on 23-24 June will be the Workshop Series. The Workshop Series will host practical workshops that focus on helping educators learn through hands-on practice how AI can be used effectively and ethically in language learning contexts.
Call for Presentations and Teaching Demonstrations (for 21–22 June 2026)
We invite submissions from teachers, academics, and education professionals for presentations and teaching demonstrations, to be held during the first two days of AIinLT 2026, that seek to integrate AI soundly and ethically in language learning contexts at any level. All presentations and teaching demonstrations should be highly practical and geared toward helping in-service language teachers and learners across all age groups. Presentations and teaching demonstrations should be 25 to 55 minutes in length and may be delivered in Chinese (Cantonese or Putonghua) or English.
We welcome presentations and teaching demonstrations on language education that match the following conference subthemes:
- Pedagogical shifts in language education and AI integration
- Personalisation and integration in language learning and teaching
- Teacher empowerment and professional development for language teachers
- AI for assessment and language proficiency tracking
- Safeguarding language education
- Informal and lifelong language learning
- AI for smarter administration and management
- AI literacy
- Keeping up with the latest development in AI
- Student empowerment
Call for Workshops (for 23–24 June 2026)
We are also calling for proposals from teachers, academics, and education professionals for 90-minute interactive workshops, to be held during the last two days of AIinLT 2026. We are seeking practical, hands-on sessions that move beyond theory to provide language educators with concrete strategies and actionable techniques they can immediately implement in their classrooms. Workshops should focus on the "how-to" of using AI to solve real teaching challenges in language classrooms. Proposals are especially welcome in areas such as:
- AI for English or Chinese Language Teaching
- Personalised AI Tutoring
- AI-Powered Adaptive Assessment
- Creative & Playful AI Tools
- Promoting Self-Directed Learning
- Critical AI & Digital Literacy
- AI for Inclusive Education
- Student Empowerment
- AI for Smarter Administration and Management
- AI for Assessment and Language Proficiency Tracking
- Integrating AI in Early Language Development
Proposals must centre on a clear, practical application of AI within language teaching and explicitly highlight the tangible skills, lesson plans, or classroom routines that participants will gain. The goal is to equip every attendee with a usable toolkit of ideas and the confidence to apply them the very next day, whether the focus is on lesson creation, student feedback, fostering autonomy, motivation, confidence or building ethical understanding.
Submission Guidelines for Presentations, Teaching Demonstrations, and Workshops:
- Submit a title and abstract for your presentation, teaching demonstration, or workshop. Titles and abstracts should be written in either English (150-250 words for abstracts) or Chinese (300-500 characters).
- Submit a short biographical statement for each presenter (less than 50 English words or 100 Chinese characters per presenter).
- Indicate the format (i.e., 25-minute presentation, 25-minute teaching demonstration, 55-minute teaching demonstration, or 90-minute interactive workshop), medium (i.e. Cantonese, Putonghua, or English), and target audience (i.e., kindergarten, primary, or secondary school teachers) of your presentation.
