Professor Roland T. Chin is a distinguished scholar in AI, whose career has been marked by both academic excellence and visionary leadership in higher education. Before his presidency at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), he held key leadership roles, including Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hong Kong and Deputy President & Provost at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. In these capacities, he was a driving force behind the expansion of research infrastructure, the enhancement of postgraduate education, and the promotion of knowledge transfer and university-industry collaboration. His extensive public service includes steering competitive funding mechanisms at RGC, UGC and ITF, and leading city-wide Research Assessment Exercises, which are still instrumental in professionalising research strategy and fostering a culture of excellence across Hong Kong’s higher education sector.
