Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris

Abstract

This project aims to introduce the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the community as a modern and innovative teaching aid, aligning with current technological advancements. Conducted at SMK Taman Bunga Raya 1 Bukit Beruntung, Malaysia. the initiative focuses on creating, engaging and creative learning experiences while developing students' technology skills and digital literacy. The use of AI in education offers numerous advantages, such as interactive teaching and learning, providing a deep understanding of topics, and enabling students to explore the latest technological trends. Several methods were used in this program based on observations, test questions, Q&A sessions, and data from the results of the quizzes conducted. The AI technology applied to chosen topics can offer students realistic representations and immersive atmospheres, enhancing their comprehension and appreciation of the subject matter. This initiative also seeks to produce more competent and professional teachers, open wide opportunities for teachers and students to analyze historical data, and modernize the education system. The success of this initiative suggests that AI can significantly enhance digital literacy and technological skills, preparing students for the evolving requirements of the digital age and all designed to optimize the effectiveness of AI in education and explore its future potential.

Abstract

Service Learning(SL) involves students participating in structured service activities to address community needs. Interprofessional Education(IPE) encourages collaboration among students from various professions, positively impacting teamwork. Both IPE and SL create a context for learning about and improving community issues.

This study aimed to: 1) evaluate the effectiveness of an Interprofessional and international service-learning(IPISL) program in raising cultural awareness, readiness for interprofessional learning, interprofessional education collaborative competency, and perceived collective efficacy among undergraduate students; and 2) explore the students’ experiences with the IPISL program.

A total of 165 undergraduate students from Hong Kong (61.2%, n=101), Indonesia (21.8%, n=36), Thailand (10.3%, n=17), and the Philippines (6.6%, n=11) joined the study. The participants included 37.5% (n=62) male and 62.4% (n=103) female students, with over 55% (n=91) coming from health-related disciplines. The program was completed in July 2024. Data analysis is still in progress and the results will be presented in the conference in December 2024.

This study will be one of the first to integrate IPE into international SL to evaluate the cultural awareness attitudes of undergraduate students towards IPE. The results will inspire and form the basis for further studies to incorporate IPE into SL and teaching curricula.

Abstract

S-L is now being practiced at higher school in Korea. Community-based service that relates to course and curricular content is becoming increasingly embedded in curricula. In Seoul women’s university (SWU), S-L has been used as an effective educational method since 2001. This paper is to describe one of S-L classes in SWU. Abstract

Since 2018, the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has made experiential learning a mandatory part of the curriculum in any educational institution. Experiential learning includes community service, community learning, and related activities, which extend the learning landscape of students beyond classrooms. In the university context, these learning programs are designed to inspire the students’ application of their knowledge and skills in real-life questions within communities. Among Vietnamese scientific society, however, this topic did not attract the deserved level of attention. This study utilized a mixed-method approach to explore the relationship between major choices and the outcomes of experiential learning of students in Vietnam. In total, 332 survey responses from university students were analyzed and 20 follow-up interviews with participants were conducted. The database was processed and analyzed to see whether statistically significant correlations exist between two dimensions: academic disciplines and perceived outcomes.

Service-learning and community engagement for internationalization at home [8403]
Claudia Kunschak
Ritsumeikan University

Abstract

With student mobility at an all-time high and community-based learning recognized as a high impact practice on campuses across the world, an approach to internationalization at home that is community-oriented suggests itself at the intersection of those two major trends. This approach may be particularly valuable for less diverse countries, countries that seek to retain global talent, or countries whose economy or exchange rate hampers study abroad options. In order to explore the potential of such an approach, a mixed-methods multimethod study was carried out at a university in Southern China with a strong focus on internationalization and a long history of service-learning. A total of 92 students answered a 30-item survey, and 15 students participated in an interview or focus group. Results indicate significant experience with community engagement both in high school and at college, a strong interest to be (more) involved, and friendship and a sense of purpose as the main motivators. At the same time, community activities for domestic students on one hand and international students on the other tend to pursue different objectives and engage different community partners. Based on student voices, suggestions for a more deliberately intercultural design of community engagement will be offered.
